In February 2024, the One Percent Research Initiative successfully launched the First Cohort of OPRI Key Research Skills Training, a six-week programme designed to strengthen core competencies in public health research. Delivered online via Google Meet, the training featured 12 interactive workshops on proposal writing, research methodology, biostatistics, SPSS, scientific writing, referencing, and manuscript publication.
What made this programme unique was its interactive format. Each session combined knowledge-sharing with exercises, group work, and hands-on activities, enabling participants to actively apply what they learned. This approach fostered collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving among participants.
To further build practical skills, outstanding participants were later engaged in real research projects, giving them the opportunity to translate training into direct experience.
This inaugural training marked an important milestone in our mission to empower young researchers and create a collaborative community driving impactful public health research across the region.
