Dr. Wisal Ahmed is a Sudanese medical professional and public health expert with over two decades of experience in programmatic interventions and research focusing on women in resource-limited areas. Her focus of work for the last seven years has been on evidence-based health sector programming on female genital mutilation (FGM) in 15 countries, initially with the World Health Organization (WHO) and currently as the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) Global Coordinator for the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme on the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation, a multisectoral program in 17 countries. She is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, with an MPH in Epidemiology and a PhD in Implementation Science from the same institution.
